The Treehouse - Daniel Island, SC

Welcome to The Treehouse! This project was a true labor of love and one that taught us a lot of lessons about renovating a large property. This home is situated on the marsh, surrounded by incredible live oaks that have lived for over 200 years in this setting. It’s the ultimate peaceful sanctuary and the reason we named this property The Treehouse.

The bones of the house were incredible, but the finishings were sleek and modern in a way that felt cold. In order to warm the space up, we incorporated raw reclaimed antique wood, added new light fixtures, and painted some of the finishings that formerly were finished with silver metal. The home is still modern, but now has more of a coastal feel, and in true AweVida-fashion, it’s Brazilian-inspired.

The foyer area is striking — the bold staircase greets you as soon as you walk in and the linear design of the wood slats on the adjacent wall creates a beautiful contrast. As they say, the kitchen is the heart of the home. As you enter the home you will see a spacious open kitchen/living/dining area that boasts a 12 feet long quartz waterfall island, open shelving, and enough seating to make your entertaining dreams come true.

Just beyond the light airy master bedroom is the master bath, which is its own little oasis. The soaking tub, the walk-in shower, and the reclaimed pecky cypress wood wall…all feel like a true spa experience you would find in an exotic resort.

The linear design from the foyer continues into the second-floor living area, creating an amazing second living space. The art on these walls was made by Christopher Dotson, a friend of Gabi who illustrated one of her favorite places in Trancoso, Bahia.

One of our favorite features of The Treehouse is the upstairs guest suite. This space makes guests never want to leave!

We make a point to create spaces that are equally as fun for children as they are for adults. With this said, we went big in the girls’ rooms. For one room, we even created a play space that has a dollhouse exterior complete with flower boxes and a Dutch door. The other room has a charming sun ray light pink door to a dreamy study/lounge space.

Immersed in the oak trees, the back porch is one of the most tranquil spaces in the home and it is huge. This area serves as the perfect place for dinner, watching a movie by the fireplace, or a fun happy hour with friends. This is by far the best room in the house and it is our favorite!
